Nitrification

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-018628

1. The biochemical oxidation of ammonium to nitrate, predominantly by autotrophic bacteria.

2. The process whereby ammonia in wastewater is oxidized to nitrite and then to nitrate by bacterial or chemical reactions.

3. The biochemical transformation of ammonium nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen.

4. The process by which ammonia is oxidized into nitric acid or another nitrate or nitrite. Biological nitrification is a key step in the removal of nitrogen from wastewater.

5. Process whereby ammonia in wastewater is oxidized to nitrite and then to nitrate by bacterial or chemical reactions.

6. Process by which ammonia is oxidized into nitric acid or another nitrate or nitrite.

7. Biological oxidation of ammonia or ammonium to nitrite followed by the oxidation of the nitrite to nitrate.
