Coal Combustion Emission
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-005369
Emission caused by the burning of coal. The burning needed to generate energy releases carbon dioxide, water, and by-products that can include unburned hydrocarbons, methane, mercury, sulfur and nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide, methane, and many of the unburned hydrocarbons slowly oxidize into carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Common sources of fossil fuel combustion include cars and electric utilities.
