Petroleum Products Combustion Emission
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-020803
Emission caused by the burning of gasoline and diesel fuels, primarily in internal combustion engines. The burning needed to generate energy releases carbon dioxide and water and by-products that can include sulfur and nitrogen oxides, unburned hydrocarbons, methane, and carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide, methane, and many of the unburned hydrocarbons slowly oxidize into carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Common sources of fossil fuel combustion include cars and electric utilities.
