Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-006944

1. Smallest measured amount or concentration of analyte in a sample that gives rise to a Type I error tolerance of alpha under the null hypothesis that the true amount or concentration of analyte in the sample is equal to that of a blank. (The alternative hypothesis is that the true amount or concentration of analyte is greater than that of a blank.)

2. The minimum observed result such that the lower 100 (1-α)% confidence limit on the result is greater than the mean of the method blanks.

3. The minimum result which can be reliably discriminated from a blank (for example, with a 99% confidence level).

4. The lowest result that can be distinguished from the blank at a chosen level, α, of statistical confidence.
