1. The initial activity in the Superfund process where a potentially contaminated site is reported to EPA or a similar state or local agency.
2. The process by which a potential hazardous waste site is brought to the attention of the EPA. The process can occur through the use of several mechanisms such as a phone call or referral by another government agency.
