1. The taking out or the stripping of substantially all ACBM from a damaged area, a functional space, or a homogeneous area in a school building.

2. A removal is a short-term cleanup intended to stabilize or clean up a site that poses an imminent and substantial threat to human health or the environment. Removals can occur at any stage of the Superfund cleanup process, but are often the first response upon discovery of a hazardous substance at a site.
