Effective Dose

1. The dose corresponding to a 10% increase in an adverse effect, relative to the control response.
2. The amount of radiation absorbed by a person, adjusted to account for the type of radiation received and the relative organ sensitivity. The SI unit for effective dose is joule per kilogram (J/kg), and its special name is sievert (Sv).
