Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-012031

1. A naturally occurring mixture of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon gases in porous formations beneath the Earth's surface, often in association with petroleum. The principal constituent of natural gas is methane.

2. A state of matter in which substances exist in the form of non-aggregated molecules, and which, within acceptable limits of accuracy, satisfies the ideal gas laws; usually a highly superheated vapor.

3. Term referring to a compressible fluid phase of a substance. Fixed gases are gases for which no liquid or solid can form at the temperature of the gas, such as air at ambient temperatures.

4. Any material in the gaseous state at 25º C and 760 mm Hg.
