1. A joule is a metric unit of energy equal to the work done by a force of one newton acting through a distance of one meter.
2. (jewel) A measure of energy, work or quantity of heat. One joule is the work done when a force of one newton is displaced a distance of one meter in the direction of force.
3. The energy required to push with a force of one Newton for one meter.
