Leaching
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-015486
1. The process by which soluble substances are dissolved and transported down through the soil by recharge.
2. Process by which water removes chemicals from soil through chemical reactions and the downward movement of water.
3. The process by which soluble constituents are dissolved and filtered through the soil by a percolating fluid.
4. The process by which soluble materials in the soil, such as salts, nutrients, pesticide chemicals or contaminants, are washed into a lower layer of soil or are dissolved and carried away by water.
5. Extracting a soluble metallic compound from an ore by dissolving it in a solvent, such as water, sulfuric acid, etc. and then recovering the metal by precipitation.
6. Downward movement of a soluble material through the soil as a result of water movement.
