Leaching
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006899
The process by which soluble substances are removed from soil or other porous material by the percolation of water. In the context of atmospheric deposition, acidic precipitation can leach essential nutrients from soils, affecting ecosystem health. This process can also transport pollutants deeper into the ground, potentially contaminating groundwater.
