Open Channel Flow

Fluid flow where the bottom and sides of the flow are confined by solid surfaces and the upper surface is in contact with the atmosphere and is at atmospheric pressure. Open-channel flow occurs in rivers, streams, canals, channels, swales, and ditches, and in pipes, sewers, and culverts that are less than completely full.
