Open channel flow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007694
The flow of a fluid in a conduit that has a free surface exposed to the atmosphere, such as a river, canal, or partially filled pipe. While primarily a concept in hydraulics, it can be analogous to certain atmospheric flows where a free surface, like the top of a boundary layer, exists. The flow is driven by gravity and influenced by bed friction.
