Friction head

The equivalent height of a column of fluid that represents the energy lost due to frictional resistance as the fluid flows through a conduit or across a surface. This concept is more commonly applied in hydraulics and fluid mechanics than directly in atmospheric science. It quantifies the pressure drop caused by viscosity and turbulence.
