Open system
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007695
A thermodynamic system that can exchange both matter and energy with its surroundings. In meteorology, many atmospheric processes and regions are considered open systems, as air masses, moisture, and heat can freely move across their boundaries. This contrasts with a closed system, which only exchanges energy.
