Open-cell cumulus

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007696

A specific type of cumulus cloud organization characterized by a pattern of clear, cloud-free areas surrounded by rings or lines of cumulus clouds. This arrangement is often observed in cold air outbreaks over warm ocean surfaces. The clear centers are associated with sinking air, while the cloud bands indicate rising air and convection.
