Cumulus humilis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004798

A species of cumulus cloud with a distinct, flat base and only slight vertical development, making it appear wider than it is tall. These clouds are characteristic of fair weather and indicate a relatively stable atmosphere with weak convection. They do not produce precipitation and are often the first stage in the development of larger cumulus clouds if atmospheric instability increases.
