Chimney cloud
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004277
A type of cumuliform cloud that forms above a strong heat source, such as a large industrial chimney or a wildfire, rising vertically in a narrow column. The intense heat creates a localized updraft that condenses moisture into a visible cloud. These clouds are often short-lived and indicate strong thermal convection.
