Cellular convection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004220
A type of fluid motion characterized by the formation of distinct, often hexagonal or polygonal, convection cells. Warm, less dense fluid rises in the center of the cell, while cooler, denser fluid sinks along the cell boundaries. This process is a fundamental mechanism for heat transfer in the atmosphere and oceans, leading to organized cloud patterns.
