Meridional cell
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007206
A large-scale atmospheric circulation pattern characterized by air movement primarily along lines of longitude, from north to south or south to north. These cells are responsible for the global redistribution of heat and moisture, driven by differential solar heating between the equator and the poles. The Hadley, Ferrel, and Polar cells are the three main meridional circulation cells in each hemisphere.
