Meridional index

A quantitative measure of the strength of the north-south atmospheric circulation in a given region. It quantifies the degree to which air masses move along lines of longitude rather than latitude. A high meridional index indicates a strong poleward or equatorward flow, often associated with significant weather pattern changes.
