Relating to movement or direction along a meridian, which is a line of longitude, typically referring to north-south flow. In atmospheric science, meridional circulation describes the large-scale transport of air, heat, and moisture from the equator towards the poles or vice versa. The Hadley, Ferrel, and Polar cells are examples of global meridional circulation patterns.
