Planetary circulation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007968
The large-scale, persistent patterns of atmospheric and oceanic movement that distribute heat and moisture around the globe. These circulations are driven by differential solar heating between the equator and poles, and modified by the Earth's rotation. Examples include the Hadley, Ferrel, and polar cells in the atmosphere, and major ocean currents.
