Planetary-geostrophic
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007971
Describing a state of atmospheric or oceanic flow where the Coriolis force is balanced by the pressure gradient force, and the planetary vorticity effect is explicitly considered. This approximation is used for large-scale motions where inertial forces and friction are negligible. It provides a simplified framework for analyzing the dynamics of planetary waves and large-scale circulation patterns.
