Circulation index

A quantitative measure used to characterize the strength or pattern of atmospheric circulation over a specific region or hemisphere. These indices often relate to pressure differences between two locations or the average flow across a latitude band. Examples include the North Atlantic Oscillation index and the Southern Annular Mode index.
