Meridional front
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007209
A weather front oriented predominantly along a north-south axis, rather than the more common west-east orientation. These fronts often develop when cold air masses from polar regions surge equatorward or warm air masses extend poleward, creating a sharp temperature gradient across longitudes. They can lead to distinct weather changes as they pass over a region.
