Hadley cell

A large-scale atmospheric circulation pattern in the tropics, characterized by rising air near the equator, poleward flow aloft, sinking air in the subtropics, and equatorward flow near the surface. This cell is responsible for the trade winds and the location of major deserts. It extends from the equator to approximately 30 degrees latitude in each hemisphere.
