Isolated system

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006705

A thermodynamic system that exchanges neither matter nor energy with its surroundings. This theoretical construct is useful for simplifying complex atmospheric processes for analysis, allowing for the study of internal changes without external influences. In reality, no atmospheric system is perfectly isolated, but some processes can be approximated as such over short timescales.
