Recombinant Bacteria

1. A microorganism whose genetic makeup has been altered by deliberate introduction of new genetic elements. The offspring of these altered bacteria also contain these new genetic elements; i.e. they "breed true."
2. Produced by genetic engineering. Also refers to a new organism (bacteria) or compound produced by inserting the genetic material of one organism into the genetic material of another organism.
