Recombinant DNA

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-023337

1. The new DNA that is formed by combining pieces of DNA from different organisms or cells.

2. Genetic material has been manipulated in vitro through the use of restriction endonucleases and/or other enzymes that aid in modifying genetic material, and subsequently introduced into the genome of the plant.

3. Recombinant DNA (rDNA) is a technology that uses enzymes to cut and paste together DNA sequences of interest. The recombined DNA sequences can be placed into vehicles called vectors that ferry the DNA into a suitable host cell where it can be copied or expressed.

4. DNA artificially constructed by combining genes from different organisms or by cloning chemically altered DNA, usually for the purpose of genetic manipulation.

5. Genetically engineered DNA usually incorporating DNA from more than one species of organism.

6. Hybrid DNA produced in the laboratory by joining pieces of DNA from different sources.
