1. An entity or action that releases to the environment or imposes on the environment a chemical, physical, or biological stressor or stressors.
2. An origination point, area, or entity that releases or emits an agent that may be an indirect cause or a proximate cause.
3. Any place or object from which pollutants are released.
4. Refers to the person(s) or organization that is the primary author, creator, and/or host of the data contained in a DSSTox database or SDF file. The DSSTox Source is identified as the Main Contact for toxicity content-related questions or inquiries concerning a DSSTox database, is generally the senior author of the Main Citation(s) associated with that database, and is the first author on the DSSTox citation for that database.
5. Any process or activity that releases a greenhouse gas, an aerosol, or a precursor of a greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.
6. An entity or action that releases a stressor to the environment (or imposes a stressor on the environment).
7. Any building, structure, facility, installation, material handling area, storage pile, road, staging area, parking lot, mechanical process or related area, or other process or related area which emits or may emit particulate matter.
8. An entity or action that releases a stressor to the environment (or imposes a stressor on the environment). [EPA 1998a]
9. A place where pollutants are emitted, for example, a chimney stack. [RAIS 2004, SRA 2004]
10. The origin of an agent for the purposes of an exposure assessment. [IPCS 2004]
11. Governmental, institutional, commercial, or industrial structure, installation, plant, building, or facility that emits or has the potential to emit any regulated air pollutant under the CAA. For purposes of section 502(c) of the CAA, a ‘‘source,’’ including a ‘‘source’’ with multiple units, shall be considered a single ‘‘facility.’’
12. Buildings, structures, or installations located in one or more contiguous or adjacent properties under common control of the same person or persons. For purposes of section 502(c) of the Clean Air Act, a ‘‘source,’’ including a ‘‘source’’ with multiple units, shall be considered a single ‘‘facility.’’
13. All buildings, structures, or installations located in one or more contiguous or adjacent properties under common control of the same person or persons. For purposes of section 502(c) of the Clean Air Act, a ‘‘source,’’ including a ‘‘source’’ with multiple units, shall be considered a single ‘‘facility.’’
14. For purposes of this subpart, means each dry cleaning system.
15. Collection of emission points to which this subpart applies as determined by the criteria in § 63.100. For purposes of subparts F, G, and H of this part, the term affected source as used in subpart A of this part has the same meaning as the term source defined here.
16. An area where a hazardous substance may have been deposited, stored, disposed, or placed. Also, soil that may have become contaminated as a result of hazardous substance migration. In general, however, the volumes of air, ground water, surface water, and surface water sediments that may have become contaminated through migration are not considered sources.
