Topcoat

1. Any coating or series of coatings applied over a primer or an existing finish for the purpose of protection or beautification.

2. Coating that is applied over a primer on an aerospace vehicle or component for appearance, identification, camouflage, or protection. Coatings that are defined as specialty coatings are not included under this definition.

3. Last film-building finishing material that is applied in a finishing system.

4. Final coating system applied to provide the final color and/or a protective finish. The topcoat may be a monocoat color or basecoat/clearcoat system. In-line repair and two-tone are part of topcoat.
