Variable, Types of

A functional relationship between two variables is expressed by a mathematical formula: Y=f(X). Y denotes the dependent or response variable and X denotes the independent, explanatory, or predictor variable. When the X variable is the assumed or actual cause of the response, it is referred to as the causal variable.
