Action of the elements on a substance, such as oil, that leads to disintegration or deterioration of the substance.\n\n3. The process of decomposition of rocks or ores through the action of air and water.\n\n4. Physical and mineralogical decay processes in rock brought about by exposure to climatic conditions either at the present time or in the geological past.\n\n5. Weathering includes two surface or near-surface processes that work in concert to decompose rocks. Both processes occur in place. No movement is involved in weathering.",
