Aligner

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000158

A tool or machine used to precisely adjust the position and orientation of components relative to each other or to a reference point. In semiconductor manufacturing, a mask aligner positions a photomask over a silicon wafer before photolithography. In mechanical trades, a shaft alignment tool uses lasers or dial indicators to bring the rotational centerlines of two or more coupled machines, like a motor and a pump, into coincidence to prevent vibration and wear.
