Silicon lottery

The variability in manufacturing quality and performance characteristics among individual semiconductor chips, even those produced from the same wafer. This phenomenon means that some chips of the same model may achieve higher clock speeds or operate at lower voltages than others. It influences the overclocking potential and power efficiency of processors and graphics cards.
