Desiliconisation

The process of removing silicon from molten metal, particularly in steelmaking or the refining of other alloys. This operation is performed to achieve specific compositional requirements or to reduce the presence of silicon as an impurity. It can be accomplished through oxidation reactions, where silicon reacts with oxygen to form silica slag.
