ANC
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000192
A method, known as Active Noise Control, for reducing unwanted sound by introducing a second sound wave specifically engineered to cancel the first. A microphone captures the ambient noise, and electronic circuitry generates an anti-noise signal with the same amplitude but an inverted phase. This is widely used in industrial headsets to protect workers' hearing from loud machinery, with regulations like OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95 setting permissible noise exposure limits.
