Hash noise
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007027
A type of broadband electrical noise characterized by its harsh, raspy sound when demodulated, originating from intermittent, high-current electrical discharges. It is produced by sources such as the sparking commutators of DC motors, faulty thermostats, or loose electrical connections that create a rapid series of small arcs. The noise spectrum is wide and contains many random frequencies, making it particularly disruptive to AM radio reception and other sensitive analog communication systems.
