Dither
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001765
The intentional application of a small, pseudo-random noise signal to a system, typically to linearize its response or to spread quantization errors across a wider frequency spectrum. This technique is employed in digital audio, image processing, and control systems. Dithering can convert a harsh quantization error into a more perceptually benign noise.
