Aquaplaning
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000260
The loss of traction and control of a vehicle when a layer of water builds up between the tires and the road surface. This occurs when the tires cannot displace water quickly enough, causing them to ride on top of the water rather than gripping the pavement. Aquaplaning risk increases with vehicle speed, tire wear, and water depth, often becoming noticeable above 80 km/h in heavy rain.
