The condition where a vehicle's driven wheels rotate at a higher angular velocity than the actual speed of the vehicle over the ground. This occurs when the tractive force applied to the wheels exceeds the available grip between the tires and the road surface. It results in a loss of traction and reduced acceleration, often indicated by a squealing sound or smoke from the tires.
