Burn out
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000857
The act of spinning a vehicle's drive wheels in place to heat the tires and create smoke, done either for show or to improve traction before a race. A burnout is achieved by applying high engine power while using the brakes to keep the vehicle stationary, or by using a line lock to brake only the front wheels. This practice causes accelerated tire wear and can place high stress on the clutch, transmission, and axles.
