Deorbit burn
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001656
A controlled firing of a spacecraft's thrusters to reduce its orbital velocity, initiating a trajectory that will lead to atmospheric re-entry. This maneuver is performed to bring a spacecraft or its components out of orbit, either for a planned landing or for controlled disposal. The timing and duration of a deorbit burn are precisely calculated to target a specific re-entry corridor.
