Aerobraking
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000110
A spaceflight maneuver that uses the drag of a planetary atmosphere to slow down a spacecraft, reducing its orbital energy. This technique allows a spacecraft to achieve a lower, more circular orbit without expending large amounts of propellant. Aerobraking requires careful control to prevent overheating or excessive structural stress on the spacecraft.
