Burn
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000856
The controlled firing of a rocket engine to produce thrust, used to alter a spacecraft's velocity and trajectory. An insertion burn places a spacecraft into orbit, while a deorbit burn initiates its return to the atmosphere. The duration and timing of each burn are precisely calculated to achieve a specific change in velocity, known as delta-v, which is a fundamental measure of a spacecraft's maneuvering capability.
