A process of operating a new component or system under normal or accelerated conditions for a period to detect early failures. It screens for infant mortality failures, which are defects in manufacturing or materials that cause a component to fail shortly after being put into service. The duration and conditions, such as temperature and voltage, are specified based on the expected failure mechanisms and reliability targets for the device.
