Mean distance between failure

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003577

A reliability metric representing the average distance a vehicle, component, or system travels before a failure occurs. It is calculated by dividing the total distance traveled by a fleet or a set of components by the total number of failures observed over that distance. This performance indicator is used in maintenance planning and asset management to predict reliability and schedule preventative servicing for railway equipment.
