Mean free time

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003578

The average duration between successive collisions of a particle in a system, such as molecules in a gas or electrons in a conductor. This statistical measure is inversely proportional to the collision frequency. It is a key parameter in kinetic theory and describes transport phenomena like electrical conductivity.
