An Environmental Stress Screening, a testing process that subjects electronic components or systems to thermal and mechanical stresses beyond their specified operating range. The purpose is to force latent defects, such as weak solder joints or faulty components, to become detectable failures before the product is shipped. A typical ESS profile involves rapid temperature cycling combined with random vibration.
